Part I. Determining Whether or Not Content is Part of the Libraries Web Site

A. Content that is Part of the Libraries Web Site

Content which is located on the Libraries main web server (info.lib.uh.edu) as well as the Libraries blog server (weblogs.lib.uh.edu) is considered part of the Libraries site and shall be governed by the Web Management Committee. Additionally, web-based services including electronic resources, ILLiad, catalog, federated search tool, OpenURL resolver, and Institutional Repository are considered part of the Libraries site and WMC shall be consulted on how these services are integrated into the Libraries site.

In order to present users with a unified look and enhance the Libraries virtual presence, all pages that are part of the Libraries web site will conform to site templates. When outside resources or services are utilized (e.g. ILLIAD for Interlibrary Loan), care should be taken to make sure these services can be customized to incorporate the Libraries banner and templates.

B. Affiliated Sites

Affiliated sites are collections of pages which the Libraries hosts on it servers but which are not part of the main Libraries’ site..  Affiliated sites may present a different look from the Libraries site but must include the Libraries’ logo and the phrase “sponsored by University of Houston Libraries” on the site. Affiliated sites will meet two or more of following criteria:
  • Site is self contained and has its own internal structure.
  • Site is distinct from the Libraries web site and does not represent the Libraries’ services, collections, policies, operations
  • Libraries’ own navigation is not appropriate to the site, and if it were added it would affect the usability of the affiliated site.
  • The site is a joint venture with another library or organization
Examples of affiliated sites include Libraries sponsored publications, events, or activities. Owners of sites that believe that their site should have “affiliated” status should submit a request for the Web Management Committee to review the site to determine its status.

Librarian and staff personal materials curricula vita, publications, presentations, etc. will not be hosted on the Libraries servers. Campus Information Technology offers web server space to faculty (http://www.uh.edu/infotech/php/template.php?account_id=58) and should be contacted regarding such space.
